About Us

Founding & Vision

Imagine if every piece in your home could tell a story – a story of warm hands, centuries-old traditions, and the vibrant rhythm of Morocco. That is exactly what we want to bring to you with our creations: not mass-produced goods, but living artworks made from natural materials, patience, and devotion.

In 2010, we founded Touda® in Germany with this very vision. Our mission has always been to support families in the most remote regions of the Atlas Mountains – families who are often overlooked. Among them are rug-weaving women, shepherds, and wood artisans. They carry invaluable, deeply authentic knowledge, especially in the making of Berber rugs, and they urgently need fair and reliable partners to bring their craft to the world.

Who We Are

We are Sarah and Soufiane – and of course, our four children, who love to join us on our journeys through Morocco.

How did we discover Moroccan Berber rugs?

Soufiane himself is Berber, born and raised in the High Atlas region. On our very first family trips to Morocco, we came across the fascinating world of Berber rugs – especially the iconic Beni Ourain. That’s where our journey began: exploring their origins, traditions, and the stories woven into each piece.

The Search

On our journey, we encountered countless so-called “Beni Ourain” rugs – and just as many that had little to do with true tradition. It became clear: we had to dig deeper, back to the roots.

That path took us high into the Atlas Mountains, to the places where roads come to an end and traders rarely pass. Remote, raw, and untouched. And it was there that we finally found what we had been looking for: the authentic Beni Ourain, woven as it has been for centuries, crafted by hand in a way that speaks to the heart immediately.

Here, in these mountain homes, live families who are rarely reached by the outside world. They preserve a knowledge that is truly unique. Their rugs are born knot by knot, woven in the spirit of ancient tradition. And it is here that the origin of their unmatched quality lies – the essence of what makes a true original.

Beni Ourain, Other Berber Rugs & the Artisans

The Beni Ourain is at the heart of our work – yet the world of Berber rugs is far more colorful. Every region, every tribe carries its own patterns, colors, and stories. In Mrirt, the noble Beni Mrirt rugs are woven; from Soufiane’s home region come the occasional Azilal and the vibrant Boucherouite pieces.

On our travels, we also meet woodcarvers and basket weavers who have passed down their knowledge for generations. Too often, however, they can only compete against cheap mass production on local markets.

That’s why every purchase from us means more than simply bringing a beautiful piece into your home: it helps preserve craftsmanship, gives families a perspective, and carries a piece of living culture forward.

2025: Touda Goes International

We’ve made a heartfelt decision to relocate our base entirely to Morocco. This allows us to work more freely, support artisan families directly on-site, and grow even closer to our roots.
We’re also excited to welcome Amal Rabih, Soufiane’s sister, to the Touda team!

We know many of you value smooth and fast shipping. That’s why we’ve partnered with ARAMEX and chosen the DDP model, we cover all costs upfront. For customers in Europe and the USA, there are no additional charges upon delivery.

If you're ordering from another country, feel free to reach out, we’re happy to check the details for you!

Returns are possible as well.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us, we’re here for you.
