Kilims from Morocco

The craft of weaving, especially that of kilims, is widespread throughout Morocco. The popular carpets are flat-woven and often feature fine patterns. Hand-processed virgin wool, dyed and undyed, is almost always used.

In Morocco, kilims were particularly popular as wall hangings and in summer also as an alternative to the slightly warmer and thick wool carpets on the floor.

The patterns and colors vary in an incredible variety and often find their origin in the Berbian characters and their symbolism. These also include kilims that reflect the entire landscape of diverse Morocco (plains, mountains, desert, forests, coast) through colors and patterns.

Most of our handmade kilims come from the Atlas Mountains and the surrounding region. We buy our kilims directly from small cooperatives or, whenever possible, directly from Berber families. This means we can ensure fair payment at all times.

We would also be happy to look for “your” rug on your behalf. Simply contact us using the contact form or write us an email directly to info@touda.de
